About

About the course

Course content

The course is part of the practical training in the teacher education program, and one of a total of four practicum courses. It accounts for 6 of the program’s 100 practicum days and includes, among other things, 15 hours in the classroom, 3 hours of SIL training, and 2×60 minutes of supervision.

The field of practical training is considered an important arena for learning and it emphasizes connections between theory and experience. All practical training is supervised and mentored and takes place in authentic professional classroom contexts. As part of their practical training within the study programme, student teachers will carry out their teaching practicum both in lower and upper secondary school, for grades 8-10 and grades 11-13, respectively. Student teachers with an academic background from common core subjects will do their teaching practicum in both vocational and general secondary school programmes.

During Practical teacher training 1, the student will gain teaching experience through systematic observation and communication with students and teachers. This course places emphasis on the classroom as an arena for academic, social, and democratic learning.
