Course content

In this course an introduction to clinical neuropsychology will be provided,focusing the treatment and rehabilitation of both adults and children. Biological risk factors will be examined and looked at in the light of the importance of environment for later development and the extent of any functional disturbances. Implications for learning, going to school, occupational activity and general functioning will be examined. Habilitation work with various problem groups will be an important topic. Teaching that builds further on the general aspects of mental problems in various age groups will also be provided.Methods of reviewing and rehabilitation of children and adults are emphasized. The course will give an introduction to the most important approaches, inclusive different diagnostic methods within the clinical area.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • The student has knowledge about clinical neuropsychology, especially connected to reviewing of brain injury.
  • The student has knowledge about neuropsychological outcome and indications related to different conditions.
  • The student has knowledge about biological risk factors and the importance of environment for later development and extent of functional disturbance.
  • The student has knowledge about consequences for learning, school attendance, profession and general functions.
  • The student has some knowledge about rehabilitation work with different patient groups with brain injuries.

Skills:

  • The student can make reflections on and discuss the meaning of neuropsychological conditions.
  • The student has knowledge about main methods connected to reviewing and rehabilitation.

General competence:

  • The student is able to communicate and discuss clinical neuropsychological problems.
  • The student is familiar to the main methods of reviewing.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars and exercises with group tutorials.

Previously approved mandatory assignments are approved for repeat of exam.

You can register for a re-sit examination if you have taken the examination in autumn this academic year, but did not pass - legitimate absence for the examination for this course autumn in this academic year

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Clinical Psychology Programme, 6 years (CPSY6)

Required previous knowledge

Passed exam in PSYPRO4201-4204 and PSYPRO4601-4604 is required.

The class will be divided into two from this semester. One group will take the PSYPRO4605 and PSYPRO4606, the second group PSYPRO4505 and perspective course, and reverse the following semester.
