About the course
Course content
Biosynthesis of: triglycerides, phospholipids and isopentenyl derived lipids. Metabolism of aminoacids, porphyrins and nucleotides. Regulation of the central metabolism on different levels: Substrate level, allostery, covalent modification, hormonal regulation,amplification cascade and signal transduction. Regulation on gene level: control and translation. Integrated metabolism and metabolic profiles in specific organs. Laboratory exercises.
Learning outcome
After finishing this course the students are expected to:
- Have an overview of the metabolisms of the most important groups of biomolecules (reactions an coenzymes).
- Have a basic understanding of the mechanisms that regulate these processes on different levels.
- Have knowledge about basic biochemical methods/techniques.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures. Mandatory exercises with approved reports.
The expected number of hours spent on organised activities + self-study is 210 hours.

Recommended previous knowledge
Approved laboratory course in TBT4102 Biochemistry 1 or equivalent.
