Learning outcome
The student
- has knowledge of unit operations together with the fundamental principles for basic methods in production techniques for biologically based products;
- has skills to calculate yield, production rates, oxygen and oxygen transfer in a biological production process;
- has skills to design and perform a lab scale bioreactor experiment, including calculate and interpret the measured data;
- has knowledge about traditional and up-to-date methods for optimizing of biologically based production processes;
- has knowledge about industrial bioprocesses, in particular microbial;
- has general competence on contemporary and future fields within industrial biotechnology, incl. bio-refinery, sustainable bioprocessing.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures (56 hours - a combination of classroom theoretical lectures and solving of exercises), mandatory laboratory work (Intensive lab work 24 hours incl report writing). Self study (130 hours). The course will be given in English if international master students are taking the course.
