Course content

The course gives insight to different challenges associated with managing a modern technology enterprise. Central topics are: a) organization theory; b) entrepreneurship; b) economy including basic understanding of accounting, investments and economy management. Different aspects of sustainability will be integrated in the course.

Learning outcome

Knowledge provided in the course:

  • A basic overview of themes relevant for an engineer within the areas of organization, entrepreneurship and managerial economics.
  • The student should acquire knowledge of relevant research and development challenges in selected topics.
  • The student is expected to be able to actively update his or her knowledge of the subject matter using the referred literature.

Competences developed in the course:

  • Through the exercises students will learn to analyze the situation in a company with respect to important challenges to meet related to organizations and management.
  • Through the exercises students will learn to develop and evaluate possible solutions to the challenges analyzed above.
  • Through exercises in economics and the belonging simulator students will train themselves to calculate and understand central models for calculating investments and accounting models.

  • Exercises are made so that students get training in arguing their professional points of view in written reports -
  • Exercises are done in groups to develop the student's ability to exchange points of view with other professionals, and to absorb and integrate their point of view in the final solutions

There are two assessments.

  • A written assignment related to organizational theory and entrepreneurship. Assessment is given in the form of a letter grade (A-F). 60% of final grade.
  • Digital exam with questions in economy. Assessment is given in the form of a letter grade (A-F). 40% of the final grade

In addition, students must complete and pass mandatory activities. In the event of a continuation school exam, the written exam may be changed to an oral examination at the administrator’s discretion. For voluntary repetition of the exam, all parts of the course must be taken again.
