About the course
Course content
The course addresses how design skills in service design can be used for community-related questions and what methods and tools the designers have to contribute to positive change. Engagement and awareness for social challenges and opportunities play key roles in this course.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: After completing the course the student should be able to describe what the design of services entails. The student should be able to apply methods that are central to service design. The student should be able to visualize and participate actively in a service design process. The student will understand her/his position and role in the development of new services and products that benefit the end user, an organization or company and society as a whole.
Skills: After completing the course, the student will have training in application of different methods of service development. The student should be able to address a problem, plan a design process, document, interpret and analyze data from field work, include relevant actors and meet their wishes and needs in the design process, and develop solutions for an improved or new service. The student will learn to develop critical thinking about the designers role in today's society as well as learn how a concept can help create a good life in diverse societies.
General competence: After completing the course, the student will have increased understanding and ability to create new and value-added services and related products that benefit partners and society.
Learning methods and activities
The course language is English. Activities consist of exercises and project group work. The project groups will be supported by tutoring, lectures and guest lectures.
Further on evaluation
For a re-take of an examination, all assessments during the course must be re-taken.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Industrial Design (MSDESIG)
Industrial Design Engineering (MTDESIG)
Interaction Design (MIXD)
Recommended previous knowledge
The course is reserved for students in 4th grade at the Industrial Design program. Also available as optional subject for a limited number of students on Interaction Design MIXD, following agreement with leader of study program of Industrial Design (MSDESIG).

TPD4144 Design 6 - Industrial Project.
