TPD4187 - AD in Transition

About

Course content

In this course the students develop new objects, installations and experiences with contextual relevance for AD's co-location in the new KAMD center. The students build on knowledge and skills acquired in their own study program, and apply principles from the fields of design, art, architecture and technology to develop projects that show the breadth of competencies and perspectives that are represented at the Faculty of Art and Design. The course is designed to provide an interdisciplinary insight into methods, knowledge and craftsmanship from adjacent disciplines. The aim is to generate artistic work that can create coherence and clarity in the multifaceted disciplinary competence that the Faculty of Art and Design represents as a whole, in order to thematize opportunities as well as challenges that lie in AD's common future.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: An extended understanding of the boundaries of design, and how horizontal approaches with neighbouring disciplines from AD can add complexity and relevance.

Skills: The ability to visualize, convey, and convincingly argue ideas and concepts.

Qualifications: A capacity for teamwork, and work in interdisciplinary teams.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and a supervised project. A verbal presentation of the results is included in the project assignments. The course is given in English if necessary.

Further on evaluation

Individual submission of project. For a re-take of an examination, all assessments during the course must be re-taken.

Specific conditions

Required previous knowledge

The course is reserved for students at master level in Industrial design (MTDESIG and MSDESIG) and Master in Architecture (MAAR). Allocation of places are done in accordance with Forskrift om opptak til studier ved NTNU.
