About the PhD programme

The PhD programme in Artistic Research is an interfacultary PhD programme headed by the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Architecture and Design; the Faculty of Humanities is the host faculty for the programme. The programme is a third cycle education in creating and performing arts and leads to the degree of PhD in Artistic Research.

The artistic performance is at the centre of the programme. Candidates who complete a PhD in artistic research must create and present an artistic result at a high international level. The candidate must also formulate a critical reflection upon their own work and document this in the form of submitted material.

For more information, see the programme description.

The PhD programme is partly based on the former Norwegian Artistic Research Fellowship Programme. You can find more information on the type of projects that were completed as part of this Programme on Research Catalogue.
