Literature search

NTNU Library has several information pages about literature search that will be helpful if you are going to write a paper, thesis or publish an article. For basic searching you can check Search and find and Oria.no. 

Advanced literature searching

If you plan to do more advanced literature searching it is ecpected that the search is precise and done in a structured way. It is expected that you do an extensive job in finding optimal search terms (keywords and free-text words). You must make a search strategy that shows how you plan to use and combine the search terms (PICO, Concept table). Advanced search techniques should be used and a critical appraisal of the sourced must be conducted. In the medicine and health disciplines structured searching is often expected starting at the bachelor level. More information here:

Systematic literature searching

Systematic searching is characterized by extensive structured searching where the information retriveal is planned, justified, documented and verifiable. For more information about systematic searching, we recommend the following resources:

  • MeSH – Medical Subject Headings
