Studies of Religion
Globally, religion has contributed in shaping cultures and societies - and vice versa.
For communities world-wide, faith and views on life are central parts of human existence. The one-year programme in History of Religion provides a deeper understanding of the importance of religion to humans, in various cultures and societies.
The one-year programme in Studies of Religion provides insight into the basic beliefs and practices of various religious traditions from a contemporary and historical viewpoint. The programme of study also proposes to provide and understanding of the underlying historical development of different religions.
Furthermore, the programme seeks to provide insight into problems that occur in the interface between religion and other social and cultural phenomena. Students are therefore supposed to develop a further understanding and awareness of religion and positions on life as important elements in Norwegian and international societies.
At NTNU, the programme places particular emphasis on religious forms of the present and cross-cultural realities.
