Background and organization

The area development plan is the basis for developing the areas in existing buildings on campus and does not include any building extensions or new buildings. When assessing the campus area in Ålesund, input has been collected from most types of users.

Need for improvement

It has been pointed out that the following deficiencies need improving:

  • Lack of student workplaces.
  • Too few teaching rooms and group rooms.
  • Lack of larger teaching rooms and a large auditorium or a big flexible room.
  • Lack of employee office workplaces.
  • Lack of workplaces for PHD and master students and work on bachelor theses.
  • Too small canteen.
  • Lack of service points.

Organization of the studies

The work on the report has been carried out by a working group led by a project manager from NTNU’s property division in Trondheim. The studies lasted from mid-October 2017 to February 2018. The working group has identified an overview of immediate measures and an overview of aspects that must be resolved in the longer term. By coordinating the implementation of the ventilation project and re-location, local needs and plans from the faculties/institutes will be adjusted where this is economically feasible.

The working group has worked on the following area principles:

  1. Unifying the institute areas.
  2. Increase in student areas.
  3. Increased activation of 1st floor in the main building.
  4. Utilization of campus 24-7.
