Sponsored by the Research Council of Norway, and partly supported by the Julian Schwinger Foundation and the Department of Energy and Process Engineering NTNU, we shall host a combined summer school/workshop on the theory and applications of the Casimir effect from June 11-16, 2018. This workshop is a part of the project "Casimir effect and Van der Waals in multilayer systems", and our main focus will be these topics. In addition we shall include a few broader aspects, like the Casimir effect in the cosmological context, applications in colloidal system.
The central part of the meeting will be tutorial lectures aiming at the level of general Ph.D. students (or other senior students) in physics, not necessarily specializing in the Casimir area but yet having a reasonably broad background in theory. The summer school session will span four days, from Wednesday to Saturday (June 13-16, 2018). Senior researchers will present their recent research at a two-day workshop on Monday and Tuesday (June 11-12, 2018).
The expected number of student participants is between 15 and 20.
See funding information on the application page.
