NTNU Community - Team Inclusive Housing and Places

About inclusive housing and places

The team's goal is to lay the foundation for research on how to develop and plan for high-quality housing, neighborhoods and places that are accessible to a wide range of residents and citizen groups. The topic is relevant for both larger cities and smaller places, even if the framework conditions and challenges are different. The physical solutions that are developed should be socially, ecologically and economically sustainable, and be characterized by high architectural quality, circular and durable construction solutions, high quality of use, facilitation of a good psychosocial living environment and affordability for different income groups. To achieve this, it is crucial to gain more knowledge about how housing and places are shaped and used by residents, and how our material surroundings act as spaces that facilitate and are part of interaction, participation and community. The team will particularly focus on issues where we see that the choice of physical solutions can contribute to a decisive difference in terms of creating an inclusive neighborhood community.

Interdisciplinary collaboration is an important key to creating the necessary knowledge base for the development of inclusive housing, neighborhoods and places. The theme aims to connect research results and research methodology from the humanities, social sciences, economics and health sciences with the knowledge base of "the making professions" which include architects, designers, landscape architects and engineers. With this as a starting point, the team will facilitate arenas for debate, networking and idea development for new research projects.
