About

I work with drawing, at the intersection of science and art, and with the combination of those, which I find crucial for learning and engaging with nature, each other, and science.

My research interests gravitate around drawing to learn in science, exploring alternative arenas and outdoor education. Recently my activities have included developing ways of creating meaningful transformative science learning, through drawing, in an outdoor setting (permaculture vegetable school gardens) in articulation with the school curriculum – and research and development of pedagogical tools to engage teachers with drawing in science.

I’am also involved in projects aiming at raising interest in science, scientific literacy and sustainability awareness through an equitable integration of arts and science.

Recently I become very engaged in issues of time and pace in (and of) education, and how art science integration can contribute to a much-needed change of pace.

I am educated as biologist and hold a Doctoral degree in Animal physiology/Insect olfaction. I have background on fundamental and applied research of sensory physiology and chemical ecology of insects and pain in fish, and experience in research and teaching of a wide range of aspects of Biology from Portugal and Norway.
