Research Area 1

Sustainability

This research area focuses on enabling a sustainable Norwegian battery industry by evaluating environmental, social, and economic impacts throughout the battery value chain. To assess battery chemistries, production methods, and recycling strategies, the work includes:

  • scenario analysis
  • life cycle assessment (LCA)
  • economic modelling

We also investigate governance and policy interventions to support sustainable growth and examines the socio-political conditions for industry development.

Key activities and deliverables

Collaboration between NTNU, SINTEF, and UiA ensures robust modelling and integration with other research areas. Key activities include:

  • developing scenarios for the Norwegian battery sector
  • quantifying resource and environmental footprints
  • analyzing economic opportunities and policy impacts

Deliverables include:

  • scenario storylines
  • LCA studies
  • economic analyses
  • ecommendations for industry and policymakers
