Translational Cancer Research - Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine
Cancer and Inflammation Research

Our overall goal is to improve patient care through increased understanding of the underlying mechanisms of inflammatory processes and cancer development.
The Unit for Cancer and Inflammation Research brings together translational and basic research aimed at understanding the mechanisms, consequences and treatment of cancer and inflammatory diseases.
Our translational cancer research focuses on hematology and gastrointestinal diseases, including colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. We also conduct translational research on inflammatory pregnancy disorders, rheumatic diseases and asthma, as well as studies on the immunotoxicology of exogenous and endogenous materials.
The unit has a strong basic research environment dedicated to understanding cellular and molecular mechanisms of inflammation. Key areas include cellular responses to respiratory and intestinal infections, TLR-driven inflammation and intracellular complement, bacterial virulence and cell death, and general mechanisms of regeneration and repair in the intestine.
Our overall goal is to improve patient care through increased understanding of the underlying mechanisms of inflammatory processes and cancer development.
The unit consists of two main research environment:
