Diversity and Competence Development in vocational learning environments

Vocational education provides unique opportunities for differentiated training through practical learning activities, occupation-relevant tasks, and close support of students’ learning processes. At the same time, vocational teachers work with a diverse student population characterized by varying backgrounds, experiences, interests, and needs. This project explores how inclusive practices and a rescource-based approach to students can enhance opportunities for learning, participation, and professional development.

About the project

About the project

The project is based on the course YFL2020 – Vocational Specialisation and Adapted Education, in which vocational teacher education students engage in research and development (R&D) work related to their own teaching practice. Through the project, students investigate how vocational education can be designed to ensure that learners with diverse backgrounds and abilities experience participation, mastery, and a sense of belonging.

Vocational education and training offers unique opportunities for adapted education through practical learning activities, occupation-relevant tasks, and close support of students’ learning processes. At the same time, vocational teachers work with a diverse student population characterized by varying backgrounds, experiences, interests, and needs. The project explores how inclusive practices and a rescource-based approach to students can enhance opportunities for learning, participation, and professional development.

The students carry out research and development work in connection with teaching and school-based practice in upper secondary education. Through collaboration between student teachers, teacher educators, and partner schools, the project contributes to the development of knowledge about how adapted education can be implemented in vocational learning environments. Particular emphasis is placed on reflection, the sharing of experiences, and the development of teaching resources that support inclusive and adapted vocational education and training.
