Accessing campscapes

Accessing campscapes

Accessing campscapes focused on the genealogies, representations and interpretations of campscapes, as topical for Europe’s political and cultural histories of the last century.

The final event in Vienna occasioned several European wide reflections on the importance, ethics and usage of the heritage of former concentration camps in the public space.

The research focusses on how the cultural significances and ways of thinking concerning work, power and community have changed since 1950 and into current times. In 2014, the researcher had a book published in a more limited field regarding how we have changed our thinking about harassment. It concentrates on the period post 1977, when the new Working Environment Act  brought awareness about psychosocial working conditions.

Daily Life and Culture as a History Field - Problems and Opportunities focuses on "ordinary people" and their "lives". The research is primarily based on physical remains of ordinary lives, as well as memory and oral tradition, to use sources both material and immaterial. While it is fortunate that reasoning, perspectives, and methods have become freer and more transparent, we continue to engage in critical reflection of what we do.

The Hidden Companies of the Global Economy

The Hidden Companies of the Global Economy

2015-2021: The Hidden Companies of the Global Economy: The development of international commodity traders, 1945-2015 was an innovative research project breaking new ground in the research on global commodity trading.

The handful of existing large independent commodity traders have been characterized as the “hidden companies” of the global economy. By controlling the flow of hundreds of billions of dollars worth of the world’s commodities these companies play a pivotal role in the functioning of the global economy. Yet, despite their significance, very little is actually known about these companies, both how they operate today and in particular how they grew to become so important.

3ROceans

3ROceans

2016-2021: The high seas and the deep oceans: Representations, resources and regulatory governance (3ROceans) was a research project which focused on how we have made use of the ocean in a historical and cultural perspective, and what limitations we have experienced in this context.
How have physical conditions, routines and technologies shaped previous maritime cultures and their relation to the sea? The researchers' goal was to increase our awareness of what the sea can be used for.
