Ålesund is located on the west coast of Norway in a region that is famous for its beautiful scenery with high mountains and blue fjords. Ålesund is one of the very few remaining Art Nouveau towns in the world, which gives the city a distinctive character. The greater Aalesund area is one of the world's leading crossroads and a cluster of expertise for the fishing industry - deep sea fishing, fish farming, fish processing - and other maritime activities, such as ship design, ship construction and production of ship equipment.

These industries are responsible for the development of some of the best and most advanced fishing vessels and offshore oil service vessels in the world. Local companies like Rolls Royce Marine Technology and Aker Maritime are also servicing the ship building industry world-wide.
