Norwegian Summer Course - NORSK0501

Norwegian Summer Course - NORSK0501

Do you wish to get a head start on your studies at NTNU and learn basic everyday Norwegian and basic Norwegian grammar? Sign up for the introduction to Norwegian summer course (NORSK0501) in weeks 32 and 33 (from Monday 3 August to Friday 14 August) 2026 at campus Dragvoll in Trondheim. The course can be combined with activities in NTNU’s Orientation Week in week 33.

About the course

The language level in the course is equivalent to level A1 on the CEFR scale. The course is 7.5 ECTS credits, with 30 hours of teaching spread across weeks 32 and 33. Class preparation and obligatory activities come in addition to face-to-face teaching at campus Dragvoll.

The exam takes place in week 34. The date will be announced by the end of May.

The learning outcome of the course is outlined below:

After completing the course, the candidate

  • is able to understand and use everyday expressions in order to carry out day-to-day tasks.
  • is able to introduce him- or herself and others.
  • is able to ask questions and answer questions about his or her whereabouts, acquaintances and possessions.
  • is able to interact with another person in an understandable way provided the other person speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to clear up any communicative issues.

Students need up to four approved obligatory activities, including an oral exercise, to be allowed to sit the exam.

Attendance is compulsory for the first lecture, and the overall attendance requirement is 80 per cent.

For more information about course content, please see NORSK0501 course description.

Please note that admission to the fall Norwegian course, NORSK0500 Introduction to Norwegian, opens on 27 June in Studentweb and ends on 17 August. There is full overlap between NORSK0501 and NORSK0500, and students who do NORSK0501 cannot take NORSK0500.
