SHE Section

– Activities and research areas

The SHE Section covers areas related to safety, health, and environment (SHE) management - wityh focus on:

  • Analysis of organizational safety
  • Resilient socio-technical systems
  • Risk regulation and control

Risk-based safety management has been an important research area at NTNU/SINTEF for more than 15 years. The scope of this research area is now expanded to include both safety and security management problems related to transportation and ICT systems. A dominant analytical approach is a vertical perspective looking at how the interaction between political institutions, regulatory and control authorities, and market forces interlock with the safety management levels within organisations down to work places and the control of hazardous processes and activities. The research activities vary from theoretical studies and modeling to case studies, interventions and evaluations.
