SAFE investigates whether a user's intent can be understood before authentication or a high-risk transaction is completed.
Research themes
- Intent mapping: analysing behaviour and interaction patterns to distinguish intended action from manipulation or coercion.
- Interaction signals: exploring mouse, keyboard and smartphone micromovements together with carefully designed user questions.
- Intent-aware authentication: combining identity verification with contextual signals so systems can respond when an action appears uncertain or externally influenced.
- Responsible decision support: evaluating explainability, privacy, fairness and the risk of false alarms.
Research goal
The goal is to give users and service providers an earlier opportunity to pause, verify or redesign a transaction when genuine intent is unclear.
