Research and Innovation

SAFE is a research and innovation centre led by NTNU. Its guiding theme is “the right user is doing the right things”: fraud prevention must consider both verified identity and genuine intent.

Objective

The primary objective is to prevent fraud through research-based innovation by helping ensure that the right person is carrying out the right transaction.

How we work

  • Understand sources and types of attacks on banking and society infrastructure.
  • Design, develop and test methods and tools for fraud detection, prevention and mitigation.
  • Use multimodal biometrics to strengthen trustworthy identity verification.
  • Develop technical and socio-technical approaches to phishing and social engineering.
  • Transfer new knowledge to users, partners and other stakeholders.

From research to use

SAFE connects academic research with financial services, technology providers and end users, progressing from new knowledge to prototypes, testing, education and knowledge transfer.
