About the course

Course content

In light of special educational perspectives, students are given the opportunity to analyze, understand, and manage complex interactions related to student diversity and inclusion in schools. Students gain insight into the ideal of an inclusive school and how this requires schools to provide adapted education and special education. Special attention is given to the student-centered and subjective perspective of inclusion, including various dilemmas and ethical issues that arise when students are challenged by the demands and rules of the school.

Students:

  • Have knowledge of the ideal of inclusive education and how this imposes demands on the school to provide adapted education and special education.
  • Have broad knowledge of how special educational practices can promote or hinder inclusion for students in schools.

Students:

  • Can analyze and understand students' experiences of inclusion and exclusion in school.
  • Can reflect on barriers and opportunities related to students' experiences of inclusion and exclusion in school.

General Competence

Students:

  • Can identify various dilemmas and ethical issues related to inclusion for students who are challenged by the demands and rules of the school.
  • Can reflect independently and exchange views with others on inclusion for students who face challenges in meeting the school’s demands and rules.
  • Can contribute to the development of inclusive practices in education.

Learning methods and activities

The theme of the subject is conveyed through dialog-based teaching, with a strong emphasis on practice-oriented and student-centered focus. The methods of instruction will vary between lectures, group work, exercises, seminars, and individual tasks.

  • 80% mandatory attendance in lectures and seminars
  • Presentation of semester project and group feedback
