About AURLab

About AURLab

The Applied Underwater Robotics Laboratory (AURLab) was founded in 2011 and is an inter-faculty collaboration to promote the application and use of underwater robotics in basic engineering and research across a wide variety of scientific disciplines and industries.

AURLab is part of the Department of Marine Technology (IMT) with offices located at NTNU campus Moholt and Trondheim Biological Station (TBS). AURLab is part of the NTNU SINTEF OceanLab-project.

AURLab develops and maintains a pool of robotic platforms for marine research, including: Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), and Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASVs).

A range of different sensors can be adapted to these vehicles to support a diverse range of scientific task. The lab also owns acoustic instruments like sonars, echo sounders, and underwater positioning systems.

AURLab seeks to advance the creation of tools and technologies for both single-platform and networked vehicle systems, as well as the development cost effective tools, techniques, and processes for doing ocean based measurements using robotic platforms.
