Housing

We provide housing of rodents and rabbits, pigs and sheep.

 

Large animal unit

This unit is approved for pig, sheep and goat. It is not SPF, and our animals come from a local farmer.

  • Two surgery rooms with AISYS anesthesia machines
  • Laboratory for handling of samples
  • Ultrasound machine
  • Blood gas analysator
  • C-arm

 

Specific pathogen free (SPF) unit

In our SPF unit we house rats and mice of Specific-pathogen-free status, according to FELASAs recommendations. We have a variety of rooms and equipment available:

  • Two surgery rooms (Large and Small) with operation microscope available
  • Safety cabinet  class 1 in Large Surgery Room
  • Three Procedure rooms for less complicated procedures
  • Isoflurane vaporisers available in all surgery and procedure rooms
  • Ventilator
  • DXA machine
  • Recovery Rack
  • Metabolic cages
  • Stereotaxic instrument
  • Small Animal Vital Signs Monitor
  • Bipolar electrocautery equipment
  • Heating pads for use during surgery
  • Centrifuge
  • Steri-Cycle CO2 incubator
  • Safety cabinet class 2

Instruments that are available, but not as a part of the core facility:

  • MicroCT
  • Ultrasound machine
  • Treadmills for rodents

 

Transgenic breeding unit

  • Transgenic Mouse breeding unit with a total capacity of 2500 cages.
  • One Procedure room (mice) for less complicated procedures with additional equipment: microscope, inhalational anesthesia.

 

Quarantine unit

In our quarantine unit we house rats, mice, guinea pigs and rabbits carrying pathogens/commensals not accepted in SPF units, and animals waiting to get tested according to FELASAs recommendations.
