How to get an ethical approval of your research project

How to get an ethical approval of your research project

In order to use animals in research you need an ethical approval of your research project. This is done through FOTS, by the Food Safety Authorities.

What to do:

  1. Send an e-mail to anne.am@ntnu.no and ask for username and password to FOTS.
  2. Login to FOTS and fill inn your ethical application.
  3. The application is sent for a local evaluation to make sure the facility has the necessary equipment and competence to perform the research project. The researcher might also receive advice regarding implementation of the 3Rs.
  4. The application is sent to the Food Safety Authorities for evaluation. The maximum application processing time is 40 working days, with a possibility of 15 additional days for extra complex projects.
  5. After approval of your ethical application, you might order your animals and start your research project.
