Teaching
Teaching is a central and highly rewarding part of my academic work. I particularly enjoy introducing students to the rapidly evolving fields of electricity markets, power-system economics and energy-system planning, and connecting fundamental concepts with the practical challenges facing today's energy sector.
My teaching emphasises the interaction between market mechanisms, optimisation, power-system operation and the energy transition. I aim to help students understand not only how models and markets work, but also how these tools can be used to analyse real-world problems involving renewable energy, hydropower, flexibility, balancing and future power-system development.
A key part of my teaching approach is to combine theory, computational modelling and practical applications. Students work with realistic electricity-market and energy-system problems, including optimisation models, data analysis and case studies inspired by current developments in the Nordic and European energy sectors.
I greatly value active interaction with students and try to create a learning environment where they are encouraged to question assumptions, explore alternative solutions and develop independent analytical thinking. Collaboration with industry and external experts is also an important element of my teaching, helping students connect academic methods with ongoing developments in the energy sector.
My teaching activities span master's-level specialisation and PhD education, with particular emphasis on:
- Electricity-market design and power-system economics
- Energy-system planning and optimisation
- Hydropower scheduling and resource allocation
- Balancing markets and ancillary services
- Flexibility and distributed energy resources
- Renewable-energy integration and future power systems
- Optimisation and computational methods for energy applications
In 2025, I was honoured with NTNU's recognition for teaching excellence and granted the title of Excellent Teaching Practitioner .

Supervision
Supervision of PhD candidates and early-career researchers is a central part of my academic work. My supervision activities span electricity markets, hydropower scheduling, power-system balancing, flexibility, optimisation, energy-system planning and emerging energy technologies.
I particularly value supervision as a collaborative research process, where students and researchers are encouraged to develop independent scientific thinking, strong analytical skills and research that contributes to both academic knowledge and real-world energy-system challenges.
Current PhD Candidates
