Background and activities
I am Professor at Department of Physics, NTNU. I obtained my PhD from the University of Oslo in 2012 with research carried out at the Norwegian Radium Hospital.
Research
Research activities include functional cancer imaging (positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)), where we develop new acquisiton methods and image analysis approaches aimed at achieving a more precise cancer diagnosis, to retrieve predictive and prognostic information on treatment outcome and survival as well as improved evaluation of treatment efficacy during treatment. Further, we are using functional imaging to map the radiation sensitivity in individual tumours by utilising different approaches to quantitatively assess tumour oxygenation and vascular function, which are two important characteristics in the tumour microenvironment that affect both therapeutic response and disease outcome. Our imaging research is centred around applications in the field of radiotherapy, where we aim to improve the use of advanced imaging in radiation dose delivery and integrate PET and MRI information in modelling of both tumour response and normal tissue toxicity following radiation. We also have ongoing activity within functional MRI-based tumour segmentation approaches using machine learning.
