About the LearnPathology Tool

The number of medical students at Norwegian universities increases. This has been challenging for the microscopy classes in histology and pathology at medical school at NTNU. The room used for conventional microscopy can only hold a limited number of students. Furthermore, teachers and students have reported that use of conventional microscopes is challenging for the students. Students’ self-studies are also limited by the need of specialized equipment.

Used in Teaching Histology and Pathology

As a solution to these challenges, the research group AICAN at NTNU has in a collaboration with SINTEF, developed a new web-based learning tool called LearnPathology. LearnPathology is now implemented at medical school at NTNU, and is used for teaching histology and pathology. The users of LearnPathology get access to a database of digital tissue sections from healthy and pathological tissue, digital microscopy courses, digital annotations of the sections, and quizzes.
