First Language Writing in Upper Primary School
In my PhD project, I explore how Norwegian teachers understand their roles as First langue (L1) teachers and writing teachers. In collaboration with teachers from upper primary level, I am conducting a pedagogical design project where we try out several writing processes in the Norwegian L1 subject.

About the project
My PhD project is a three-part study, with Norwegian L1 writing as the overarching theme and pedagogical design research as the overarching method. In the first study, I aim to find out how teachers in Norwegian Primary and Elementary School understand their role as teachers in the L1 subject and as writing teachers, and I have done this through a survey and interviews. In the second study, I focus on how grade 5-7 teachers talk about and collaborate on writing in the L1 subject, while the third study highlights the student perspective and their views on writing.
Related to the first study, my supervisor and me conducted a survey in collaboration with “Språkrådet”. The report from this survey is available here: Norsklærerens kompetanser, roller og ansvar (only available in Norwegian).
