Academic Guest Network - NTNU for refugees
Academic Guest Network
Academic Guest Network
For refugees with an academic background, the Academic Guest Network is being developed as a joint project with the municipality of Trondheim. The network is intended for refugees who are taking part in the municipality’s introductory programme.
Refugees in NTNU’s region may be offered guest status in an academic environment. The aim is to support academic motivation, to explore opportunities for further studies and/or to look for ways to enter the job market. This happens through social inclusion and keeping up to date academically.
Participants
NTNU's Department of Public Health and Nursing initiated the scheme, and so far the following departments and academic environments participate:
- Cardiac Exercise Research Group (CERG) and Department of Circulation and Medical Imaging (ISB)
- The Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience / Centre for Neural Computation
- SINTEF Industry
- Department of Language and Literature
- Drama and Theatre, Department of Art and Media Studies
- Educational and Psychological Counselling Service (PPT) / Department of Teacher Education
Student initiatives
Norsk start
Norsk Start is a student organization that through various activities, courses and offers works for better integration of settled refugees in Trondheim. They organize weekly meetings where refugees can practice Norwegian with volunteer students from NTNU. Norsk Start also offers a mentorship programme that allows refugees with a study background from their home country to join students at NTNU in academic relevant lectures, while waiting for their education to be approved for further studies in Norway.
The purpose is to give refugees the opportunity to get acquainted with the Norwegian education system, meet Norwegian students, practise the Norwegian language and maintain their education. The mentor programme is offered in cooperation with the municipality of Trondheim and NTNU Academic Guest Network.
