Marine Research Infrastructure in Trondheim (MaRIT)

Marine Research Infrastructure in Trondheim (MaRIT)

The Marine Research Infrastructure in Trondheim (MaRIT) offers an integrated research platform for multidisciplinary research and development related to Ocean Space Research. A MaRIT-consortium is under construction based on the infrastructural facilities in and around the Trondheimsfjord region.

Objective

  • Develop the Trondheimsfjord and the coastal regions off Trøndelag into a Marine Research Infrastructure, a methodological R&D platform that is easily accessible for all partners.
  • Establish over time a cross-disciplinary research group with multiple users and technology providers in the Marine Surveillance and Communication domain 2010.

An integrated infrastructure for research and higher education within the Trondheimsfjord region will facilitate the accessibility to the available facilities and instruments, stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration, and contribute to a better understanding of natural and man-made processes in coastal regions. MaRIT consortium partners provide and are given access to all individual components of the integrated infrastructure.

The consortium is under construction, and consists at present of Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA).
