Research topics

SiGe solar cells
We are investigating the use of laser processing to modify the structure of SiGe core glass fibers to let them absorb more of the solar spectrum

THz
Silicon core fibers may be useful for medical diagnostics, and we are doing fundamental studies of the materials to test whether the fibers will be useful for in-vivo delivery and recovery of the needed spectral signals.

Structured fibers
Many applications would benefit from homogeneous semiconductor cores, but some require different components to have different locations within the core.  We are using laser treatment to segregate and arrange different components within the core.
