Burden of headache in the American Region

Global Campaign against Headache

Burden of headache in the American Region

The Region of the Americas (AMR) includes North, Central and South America.

In North America, the burden of headache is well-documented in the United States but not elsewhere. A population-based study is planned in Mexico.

Published burden-of-headache data in Central America are of questionable quality. At least one new study is needed. A population-based study is in the pilot phase in Guatemala.

In South America, Brazil is a priority country because of its size, and it is moderately well-resourced. Good prevalence but not burden data exist. From other countries in South America, the quality of data is not high. New studies are planned in Peru and Brazil, and may be extended to Argentina and Colombia.
