Burden of headache in the Eastern Mediterranean Region

Global Campaign against Headache

Burden of headache in the Eastern Mediterranean Region

In the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) there have been few good burden-of-headache data although it includes countries that are well-resourced to support population-based studies.

Saudi Arabia offers opportunities for this reason. Door-to-door surveys are not possible in Saudi Arabia; a population-based survey by mobile telephone has been completed and is in analysis.

Pakistan is a much poorer country. Despite the security problems, a nationwide population-based door-to-door survey has been completed and is in analysis.

A burden-of-headache study is needed in at least one country of Arabian North Africa. In Egypt, a population-based door-to-door survey was at a stage of advanced planning, but put on hold in 2013 because of the security situation. In Morocco, a similar study in three regions of the country will enter the pilot phase soon.
