Burden of headache in the European Region

Global Campaign against Headache

Burden of headache in the European Region

The former USSR is a priority because it is a very large area of the European Region (EUR), with, until now, little knowledge of headache burden. Population-based burden-of-headache studies have been completed in Russia and Georgia.

We were partners in the Eurolight project, an activity supported by a grant of the EC Public Health Executive Agency and promoted by the Centre of Public Health Research, Luxembourg. Its purpose was to survey the impact of headache throughout Europe, acquiring knowledge in order to inform policy-makers.

Eurolight harvested information from people with headache in Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom, and showed the total annual cost of all headache in the European Union to be an astronomical €155 billion.
