High usability and space efficiency support effective workflows.
Success criteria:
- Campus offers high usability.
- Campus makes efficient use of space.
- Campus has flexibility in space and usage.
NTNU needs a campus that provides physical conditions adapted to the university’s activities, while making optimal use of shared societal resources.
Campus should support a good working environment. Staff and students should experience the campus as offering high usability, with support for a wide range of working methods—whether they require deep concentration or active collaboration.
NTNU must manage national resources in an economically and environmentally responsible way. Campus spaces must be efficient. This means maximising use of rooms throughout the day and year, favouring shared spaces, and avoiding unnecessary square metres.
NTNU’s needs will change over time, and campus must accommodate flexible spaces that can adapt to different kinds of change. To ensure sufficient flexibility, there should be space reserves available for new businesses, research institutions, and future expansions near the campus. Campus spaces should be as general-purpose as possible, allowing different activities in the same room. Specialised spaces should only be built where necessary.
