Network of Hubs
NETWORK OF HUBS
Campus has distinctive hubs that are closely connected to each other and to the city.
Success criteria:
- Campus has recognisable, outward-oriented hubs
- Manageable walking distances between hubs.
- The network is integrated into the city’s street grid and transport system.
Campus is part of a dense network with clear hubs that promote interaction between disciplines and functions.
Different university functions should be concentrated in distinctive hubs. These hubs will serve as the university’s “main halls,” offering meeting places and outreach arenas that invite a variety of user groups to engage academically and socially. Hubs should combine functions such as education, research, outreach, innovation, student activities, student welfare, libraries, services, businesses, and city functions. They should be easy to recognise, with architecture that highlights their identity.
It should be easy to move between hubs. The campus will therefore be tied together in a network that is universally designed and easy to navigate. This network should be rich in experiences, helping to create a sense of short distances.
The campus network should be part of the city’s overall transport system, for both people and goods. This applies to transport within campus as well as to and from campus.
