The research group for welfare and migration is an interdisciplinary research group working on issues related to ethnic relations, migration and integration. Our research focuses on different levels of society and geographical areas. We explore processes and relationships at micro and macro level - between the sender and the recipient in and outside Norway and Europe, between the welfare state and the individual, and between the majority and the minority, as well as processes that are going on within the majority population. The research activity in the field takes place in close collaboration with the interdisciplinary research group at the NTNU-SU faculty, the research group at Diversity and Inclusion at NTNU Social Research and other research communities in Norway and abroad.

We explore these issues and topics:

  • Migration, ethnic relations and immigration
  • Welfare state, inclusion policy and service provision
  • Refugee-related issues
  • Development in asylum policy in Norway and in Europe
  • International comparative analysis of social and political responses to migration
