About us

About us

The Migration and Mobility research group is a network and discussion arena for researchers at the Department of Sociology and Political Science. We organize regular monthly seminars with paper presentations, invited talks, an annual lunch-to-lunch seminar, mid-term and final seminars for our PhD candidates, and a reading circle. The group also has affiliated researchers and PhD students from other universities and departments, who participate in our activities. In the spring of 2022, we established the bachelor's course SOS2011 Migration and Mobility

The members of the group are involved in research that addresses various forms of mobility and migration at different levels of society, such as:

  • domestic and international migration
  • labor migration and social inequality
  • processes of change and development in local communities
  • international migration and welfare state
  • migration control and migration regimes

The group combines qualitative and quantitative approaches to study mobility and migration.

The group is co-responsible for coordination of a cross-disciplinary research group Migration Hub - NTNU  for researchers from several departments at NTNU, NTNU Social Research, and Ruralis- Institute for Rural and Regional Research
