About the course

Course content

The subject gives a broad introduction to historical and sociological theory of science, with particular emphasis on the interaction between science and society. This is pursued in particular in relation to the emergence of modern science and technology, which is illuminated through constructivist, feminist and other approaches. The following topics are being covered: History of science and the modern university, the social organisation of science, normative and sociological theories of science, gender in academia, interdisciplinarity, research ethics, critical perspectives on science and knowledge and research policy.
Students who need 10 study points, have to choose KULT8851, where the demands of the term paper are relatively larger.
