Medical Ethics

Defending and promoting central moral values is a key element in decisions in health care and medical research. Medical technology development deliver increasingly powerful tools to understand and deal with an expanding array of health problems. New opportunities to know and intervene comes with an increased responsibility for well-reflected decision-making.

The Research Group for Medical Ethics (REMET) at NTNU go into the medical and ethical questions of our time, in order to contribute to the analyses needed for making sound ethical decisions in health care and medical research. We are concerned with the assumptions and consequences of the choices taken in research, in prevention, and in clinics. We ask basic ethical questions: What is at stake, and for whom? Which benefits and values are threatened and promoted? Which options are available? How strong are the arguments involved in decision-making?

REMET work closely every day with scientists and medical professionals in the clinical, research, prevention and innovation setting. The research group meet regularly, and based on our background and research, we conduct teaching, dissemination and counseling in medical and ethical questions. Feel free to contact us concerning questions of research ethics, clinical ethics, innovation ethics or ethical questions concerning the societal impact of medical practices.
