Study Geography and Social Anthropology

The educational programs at IGS are research-based. Sustainability is a common thread in all our study programs. Through our study programs, you will develop theoretical perspectives, substantive knowledge, and methodological competence relevant to both research and the job market. Fieldwork and field-based teaching are important parts of the department’s educational offerings. Skilled candidates in Geography and Social Anthropology are the department's most important contribution to society. 

With a background from our study programs, you have a solid foundation for an exciting career in both the public and private sector, in Norway and internationally.

The Department of Geography and Social Anthropology offers the following full study programs for international students:

Master Level, 2-year

  • MSc in Globalisation and Sustainable Development
  • MSc in Natural Resources Management

PhD Education

  • Phd Program in Geography
  • Phd Program in Social Anthropology


For Norwegian and other Scandinavian language speaking students we also offer these programmes:
