On Fridag 27 November 2020, the ceremony was conducted virtually for the first time. The 384 new graduates received their diploma for completing their PhD.

The Doctoral Awards Ceremony Friday 20 March 2020 at Gløshaugen, NTNU, had to be cancelled due to the corona situation.

377 were awarded at two Doctoral Awards Ceremonies in the Aula, Main Building at campus Gløshaugen.
Thursday 14 November
110 doctors were gathered to attend the ceremony and received their diploma. Researcher and entrepreneur Steinar Sælid was awarded NTNU’s Honorary Award. Academic procession and musical acts.

Wednesday 13 November
80 doctors were gathered to attend the ceremony and received their diploma. Professor Emerita Vishanthie Sewpaul in Social Work, University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in South Afrika, were awarded a honorary doctorate, dr.h.c. Academic procession and musical acts.

Honorary Doctors
The list of honorary degrees includes persons awarded their honorary degree by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and its predecessors the Norwegian Institute of Technology, (honorary degrees 1935–1967) and the University of Trondheim (honorary degrees 1968–1995).
