BRU21 Innovation
ProDecs • ComputerWell • DigiWellData • DrillFeel • OSDU Innovation Lab
Value creation is among the top priorities for the BRU21 program. Most BRU21 research results are transferred directly to the partner companies. Results with a broader potential impact are turned into innovation projects supported by NTNU Technology Transfer. This newsletter presents recent updates on BRU21 innovation activities.
PRODECS: Software for Project Economic Analysis under Uncertainty
ProDecs provides software and services for Project Economic Analysis under Uncertainty. The company was established in 2024 following six years of R&D in the BRU21 program in collaboration with OKEA, AkerBP and the Norwegian Offshore Directorate. Its software is relevant for all energy investment projects, especially those with low margins and significant uncertainties. The company is now seeking additional partners for its Joint Industry Project in 2025 and offering trial license packages for their O&G module. Get in touch for a demo! Read more about ProDecs.

DrillFeel: Increasing Driller’s Situational Awareness
DrillFeel is an innovation project focusing on increasing driller’s situational awareness. Its technology allows the driller to feel downhole drilling conditions through actuated joysticks in the driller’s chair as if holding hands on the BHA. In 2024, DrillFeel was awarded with Equinor’s Innovate for Better Prize. Meet DrillFeel at the 2025 SPE/IADC Drilling Conference in Stavanger, March 4-6. Read more about DrillFeel.

OSDU Innovation Lab: Innovation Laboratory on Open Subsurface Data Universe
OSDU Innovation Lab is a BRU21 initiative to promote Open Subsurface Data Universe to education and research at NTNU. In 2024, we established a team to conduct research and supervise PhD and MSc projects on OSDU and, in collaboration with Equinor and AkerBP, started the first MSc projects. Currently, we are working on securing longer-term funding and invite industrial partners to support this initiative. Read more about OSDU.

Awards
DrillFeel
DrillFeel is a technology that uses haptic feedback to increase driller’s awareness of the downhole and top-side drilling process. It allows the driller to feel the drilling process through actuated joysticks, in an intuitive and user-friendly way.
DrillFeel awards:
- 3rd prize in Equinor’s Innovation competition, 2024
- 1st innovation prize from NTNU Eng. Faculty, 2023
ProDecs
ProDecs is a software for project economic analysis under uncertainty. The BRU21 research project on valuation of marginal fields has resulted in methods that can be extended and used throughout the whole industry.
ProDecs awards:
- 1MNOK Discovery Innovation Grant, 2023
